Hello,

I really liked the the picture, or to be more specific the idea behidn the picture. However, because of a technical mistake, the photograph lacks the needed ammount of impact. While the desired focal plane is evident, the use of a relatively wide (for macro that is) aperture reduces the DOF too much, making it so that there is no crisp-sharp focal plane to refer to and the viewer has to "imagine/add" details to the shot, which may be a good thing in other pictures but in a macro shot liek this one it really takes away from the tiny detail you wanted to share.
Consider also that the longer the focal lenght you are using, the more shallow will the DOF be. For instance, while a 5.6 might be acceptable for some macro shots with a 50mm (35mm equivalent), apertures of f8 and above are usually recommended. When using what is a 90mm equivalent (the 55mm on your 1100D) an f5.6 will give you a very veyr shallow DOF which will induce focusing mistakes, simply because of how thin it makes the focal plane.

That being said, the shot is good in as far the idea goes, but the tecnique really takes away from what a macro shot liek this one should be.

Hope you find this useful,

Good shootign to you,

Nicola.
